In 2003, Galleries Sternberg discovered a young artist with exceptional talent, Joseph Spangler. We gave him a successful solo exhibition of his deeply moving Chicago paintings and expected great things from Joe. Sometimes, however, life can get in the way of art . . . like the birth of two children and a move to Portland, Oregon. Through all of it, Joe continued to paint and, most important, to grow as an artist. In 2010, Joe's second solo at Sternberg, entitled, “Joseph Spangler – New Paintings – From Chicago and Back” reflects what we believe is the best work that Joe has done. There are new Chicago paintings that will remind you of Edward Hopper as well as many personal paintings that are emotionally powerful and stylistically innovative. If you know Joe Spangler’s work, we think that you’ll be impressed by his evolution. If Joe Spangler is new to you, you’re in for a treat.
